Bangalore University and Bengaluru Central University are in yet another tussle. This time, they are vying for possession of the century-old University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE).
Such problems have been cropping up after Bangalore University was trifurcated into Bengaluru Central University, Bengaluru North University and the parent varsity at the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year.
The trifurcation report presented by the Kori Committee had said that UVCE would fall under the ambit of Bangalore University. However, the Higher Education Department recently issued an order stating that UVCE belongs to Bengaluru Central University, as it falls under its jurisdiction.
βThe State government should resolve this at the earliest, as we will need to communicate with the officials of the university that we belong to on a lot of matters, including renovation of the college and filling vacant posts for teachers,β said a faculty member of UVCE.
A majority of the faculty members at UVCE feel that the college should be given autonomous status.
The college has 4,000 students. While two of its departments β civil and architecture β are located in the Jnanabharathi campus, four other departments, including computer science, electronics, electrical and mechanical, are located at its K.R. Circle campus.
Rajkumar Khatri, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, said that they would convene a meeting with officials of Bangalore University, Bengaluru Central University and Bengaluru North University to resolve this matter.
