Female MPs given a dedicated security officer to protect them from threats and abuse

Female MPs are to be given a dedicated security officer as part of attempts to protect them from a wave of threats, abuse and intimidation.

Parliamentary authorities are hiring a "personal security adviser" who will visit constituency offices and homes to help ensure the safety of MPs and their staff while they away from the Commons.

Unusually, the position is only open to women. The successful candidate will focus on providing "tailored" personal security advice to female MPs and their staff, and liaising with police and security companies on their behalf.
