Stage set for counting of votes for Shahkot by-poll on Thursday

The counting for the Shahkot by-Election would be held in 17 rounds for which elaborate arrangements have been made by the district administration in the office of Director Land Records Punjab.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha on Wednesday took stock of the entire arrangements made in this regard. They said that more than 300 Police personnel have been deployed in the counting centre the smooth and hassle free counting process besides making strenuous efforts for streamlining parking process during the counting. They said that every effort would be made to ensure that the counting for the by-poll was held peacefully and in a congenial atmosphere.

They said that said that the counting of votes would start at 8 am in the morning in the presence of the Election Observer, candidates of the political parties and their representatives. Both the officers said that district administration has already made elaborate security arrangements for the security of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the VVPAT Machines, for which the Para Military Force has been deployed at the counting centre.

Likewise, they said that round the clock surveillance of the machines was also being ensured through the CCTV cameras that have been installed in the premises of the counting centre.
