HYDERABAD: A senior scientist at National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was arrested by Osmania University police for allegedly sending objectionable content to a girl student on her mobile phone.
K Bhaskarachary (58) was charged with outraging the modesty of the girl as well as under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He was produced before a local court that sent him to judicial remand, OU inspector G Jagan said.

The complainant, a post-graduation student, was attached to Bhaskarachary as part of a course at NIN. The accused allegedly sent objectionable messages on her phone. She approached senior administrators of the institute and the authorities suspended him a few days ago.

On May 18, the girl also lodged a police complaint at OU, narrating the harassment she faced. An online campaign too was doing the rounds demanding dismissal of Bhaskarachary. Several other students also alleged that they had been silently tolerating Bhaskarachary’s sexual harassment for long.
