In an alleged case of sexual misconduct, a 58-year-old senior scientist at the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was arrested by the Osmania University police.
A second-year student of M.Sc (Nutrition) of NIN, who hails from West Bengal, alleged that K. Bhaskarachary outraged her modesty, harassed her sexually and also used filthy language against her. Following the complaint, OU police registered a case against the senior scientist.
Kachiguda ACP J. Narasiah said the accused, who was absconding for a fortnight, was arrested on Friday night. He was sent to judicial remand on Saturday. He was also booked under the relevant sections of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The student, a Dalit girl, had complained against Bhaskarachary on May 10 to NIN Director, R. Hemalatha with evidence. Based on that, a departmental enquiry was ordered and Bhaskarachary was suspended.
In her complaint to the police, she stated that the scientist, who was her guide for her dissertation, was sending her abusive messages as well as obscene pictures and videos on WhatsApp.
