Sophie Pascoe claims gold in 50m freestyle at Para Swimming World Series.
Sophie Pascoe has claimed a gold medal in the 50-metre freestyle finals at the Para-Swimming World Series event in Sheffield.
Pascoe touched the wall in second, 0.01s behind Great Britain's Hannah Russell but her score of 959 points was enough to take the gold, with Pascoe (S10) and Russell (S12) competing in different classifications.
The event, that combines athletes with varying disabilities, uses a points system to calculate the final placings.
Sophie Pascoe has won gold at the Para Swimming World Series in Sheffield.
Pascoe's score of 959 points was enough to defeat fellow S10 rival Canada's Aurelie Rivard (934 points) and Russell, who scored 912 points.
Pascoe's time of 27.75 seconds was just 0.02 seconds outside of her personal best and 0.05s ahead of Rivard.
