Newcomerstown Village Council
May 21 meeting
NEWCOMERSTOWN Brian Shurtz, a member of the Boy Scouts Pack 424 recently presented a plan to Newcomerstown Village Council regarding replacing the sign at West Lawn Cemetery as a project to gain his Eagle Scout badge.
The previous sign at West Lawn had deteriorated, fell over, and was later removed according to the village cemetery personnel. Shurtz, accompanied by his advisor, Brian Rennicker, informed council that he needed signatures from council to submit to the scout leader before he could begin the project. He said that as soon as he receives approval from the scout leader he will begin the project hopefully within the next month.
Shurtz provided sketches of the planned sign, and said it will be constructed of vinyl material for longer durability. He said local business owner George Darr has agreed to assist with funding for the materials for the sign. The sign is planned to be approximately 3’x4’, and will be situated in the same location of the original sign. Shurtz said he projects that the sign will be completed and in place by late August.
