12-day session would seek to regularise 17 Ordinances

The 11th session of the Kerala Assembly beginning on June 4 will seek to regularise 17 Ordinances awaiting their turn to become law.

The 12-day session will be dedicated to legislation, Speaker P.Sreeramakrishnan told a press conference here on Saturday.

He said six Ordinances would be replaced by Bills on the first two days of the session, with the Business Advisory Committee to take a call on the schedule for the remaining days.

The discussion and voting on the supplementary demands for grants in the 2018- 19 budget will be held on June 13.

The Ordinances to be regularised by the House include those promulgated to amend the Kerala Paddy Land and Wetland Conservation Act, Kerala Municipality and Panchayati Raj Acts, Kerala High Court Act, Kerala University Act, Sri Sankaracharya Sanskrit University Act, Travancore- Kochi Hindu Religious Institutions Act, Abkari Act, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technological University Act and Kerala State Higher Education Act.

The newly elected Chengannur MLA Saji Cherian would be sworn in on Monday.

Festival of democracy

The Speaker said a six- month Festival of Democracy would be organised as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Kerala Assembly. The festival commencing in July includes meetings of legislators and women legislators, a students’ parliament and a conference on ‘The challenges to Democracy’.
