In its bid to put pressure on the BJP-led government at the Centre as well as in Goa, the Shiv Sena on Saturday threatened to start an agitation if the state did not get a full-fledged Chief Minister to replace the ailing Manohar Parrikar who is currently undergoing treatment in a US hospital.
“How can a state continue to function in the absence of a Chief Minister. There are so many urgent issues, including resumption of the mining industry, which need to be tackled. If the BJP does not appoint a full-fledged Chief Minister within a month from now, the Shiv Sena will launch a statewide agitation in protest,” Shiv Sena’s Goa president Jitesh Kamat said at a press conference.
The Shiv Sena is in alliance with the BJP in neighbouring Maharashtra.
Mr. Kamat further demanded that President’s Rule be imposed in the state until a new Chief Minister was appointed.
Before leaving for the US for treatment nearly three months ago, Mr. Parrikar had appointed a cabinet advisory committee comprising three ministers, which the Congress as well as the Shiv Sena had dubbed as “unconstitutional”.
