The Farwell High School softball team won its first district title since 2016 on Saturday at Clare’s Brookwood Athletic Complex and it topped Beaverton 3-2 in eight innings before shutting out the host Pioneers 2-0 in the Division 3 district final.
Senior right-hander Grace Saupe, who will pitch at Kent State starting this fall, had a day to remember.
In the opener she allowed two runs on four hits while striking out 11 in the extra-inning win over 10th-ranked Beaverton.
She also helped her own cause with an RBI while Kathron White also drove one in. Soyer Barnett also had a key hit in the win.
In the district title victory over Clare the Eagles (20-8) scored once in the fourth and once in the sixth. Saupe allowed no runs on one hit while striking out 12 in the complete game win.
Sydney Seybert led the offense with three hits while Saupe and Barnett each had two.
The Eagles will play McBain in regional action next Saturday from Standish-Sterling High School.
