For 38 years DeSoto Printing has been serving Fort Payne. Terry Parker was the founder and with the help of John Tcherneshoff they opened the doors in 1980. Parker gives credit to many people for helping to open and keep the doors open of the business.
“The people who helped shape this business are my wife, Lynne, Nancy Tcherneshoff, and Cynthia Turner,” said Parker.
Parker opened up his print shop at the age of 22. “I knew at age 16 that is what I wanted to do,” said Parker. Parker wants the public to know that he appreciates their business and no job is too small to take care of.
DeSoto Printing produces items that meet the needs of both small businesses and individuals. They print brochures, booklets, and manuals for businesses and charity events and, of course, business and calling cards.
Personal items such as graduation and wedding invitations and “save the date” cards for engaged couples are part of the services they provide. They also can assist in taking care of personalized holiday cards. The office staff are well trained to assist customers in designing whatever might be needed.
One feature they offer, that is especially nice, is the addressing of the envelopes in a script print that looks hand-printed. It a really nice aspect when there are many envelopes to be addressed. The customer then only needs to put the invitation together and place the postage.
In addition to meeting the publics needs, Parker feels his business should also meet his employee’s needs and tells his employees that their family responsibilities come before the job. Whenever an employee has a sick family member, no pressure is placed upon them to put their job ahead of their family.
“We cross-train all of our employee’s, so each one can cover someone else’s job should they be out due to illness or a family matter,” said Parker. “In this way we are not left shorthanded and the individual can care for their family.”
