Army officer’s wife killed in car accident

A 48-year-old woman, the wife of an officer in the Indian Army, was killed in an accident near Tavarekere in Sira taluk of Tumakuru district on Thursday.

The car they were travelling in hit a median on National Highway 48 and crossed over to the other side where it was hit by a passing truck.

The police identified the deceased as Madhuri, wife of Colonel Arun Sharma of Bengaluru.

She was travelling to Bengaluru with her daughter Shreya, 20, who was driving the car, and their dog.

According to the police, the accident occurred around 1.40 p.m.

Madhuri died on the spot while Shreya and the dog sustained injuries. “They were coming from Pune in Maharashtra where Shreya studies engineering,” said a police officer.

The injured were shifted to Sira taluk government hospital where Madhuri was declared brought dead.
