Brisbane-based airline Jetgo enters into voluntary administration

Brisbane-based regional carrier Jetgo Australia has grounded its passenger services after entering into voluntary administration on Friday.

The airline, with its fleet of five Embraer aircraft, flew regular passenger services to and from Brisbane and Melbourne’s Essendon Airport to regional centres in the eastern states.

It had also announced services between Brisbane and Karratha, in Western Australia, which would have run from August.

“Jetgo Australia will continue limited charter operations, however, all Regular Passenger Transport
scheduled services are suspended for the duration of the administration period,” the company said in a statement.

Jetgo had operated as a charter service focusing on FIFO workers in the resources sector from 2012, but expanded into regular passenger services after it received regulatory approval to run as an airline in October 2014.

Jonathan McLeod and Bill Karageozis from McLeod Partners have been appointed the airline’s administrators.

Jetgo ran RPT services to Brisbane, Townsville, Rockhampton and the Gold Coast in Queensland, Wollongong, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga and Albury in New South Wales and Essendon Airport in Melbourne.

Until last month, it also ran services between Brisbane and Tamworth.

Jetgo directed media queries to the administrators, who have been contacted for comment.

A Qantas spokesman said the airline would offer affected Jetgo passengers discounted fares for the month of June, which he said were equivalent to its lowest year-round fares on the routes.

"Jetgo Australia customers will be required to quote their Jetgo booking reference to access our disrupted passenger fares," he said.

"Customers will also need to carry a copy of their Jetgo Australia itinerary to present at check-in at the airport."

The Qantas bookings could only be made by phoning 1300 659 116, the spokesman said. Online bookings would not be available.
