AGRA: Returning from
Vaishno Devi after celebrating their five-year-old son's birthday, three members of a family, including the child, were killed, while five others were injured after their SUV overturned on
Agra-Lucknow expressway on Friday morning. The family was heading toward home in Lucknow.
The incident took place at around 5.30 am, just 300 meters away from inner ring road toll plaza. According to sources in police, the driver of the car fell asleep and rammed into divider before turning turtle.
The victims of the accidents were identified as Asha Devi (45), wife of
Rajesh Singh who was driving the car, daughter Deeksha (20) and Singh's friend's son
Archit Singh (5). The trio were killed on the spot due to grievous head injury and internal bleeding. Their bodies were sent for postmortem.
While the other injured Rajesh Singh, his friend Vijay Singh, Gunjan, Ramdhani and one more person were taken to S N Medical College.
According to police source, the family was coming from Vaishno Devi after celebrating Archit’s birthday. The victims hailed from Vibhuti Khand of Lucknow.
"Since the driver Ramdhani was exhausted after driving for 800 km from Vaishno Devi, Rajesh asked him to rest while he took the control. Later in the morning, he too felt asleep and the car fell on the service lane," said police.
According to acting station house officer
Dharmendar Singh, “No FIR has been lodged, but the victims are in stable condition and we have informed their relatives.”
As per an RTI, between August 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018, a total of 853 accidents were reported to police, in which 100 persons died on the country’s longest expressway. It was inaugurated on December 23, 2016, and toll services began from January 19 this year.
