DAYTONA BEACH — Police said a woman was carjacked Thursday by a couple who pulled her out of her car using a dog leash — and the victim's dog was inside the vehicle when the suspects sped away.

Daytona Beach police are still looking for the suspects, the woman's car and dog. The car is a black 2015 Chevy Cruz and the dog is a 6-month-old terrier mix, police said.

The woman, who police did not identify, said she pulled into the Dollar General, 825 W. International Speedway Blvd., and was confronted by a male and female. The pair asked the victim whether she could give them a ride and the woman agreed to do so, but needed to buy some dog food first, according to police.

Moments later, sometime around 12:15 p.m., the three of them left the store and the woman drove the couple to several locations, but she became nervous and pulled into the Villages of Halifax near Adams Street and told the pair she wasn't going to drive them around anymore, police said.

That was when the pair got out of the car, walked around to the driver’s side and wrapped a dog leash around the victim’s neck and dragged her out of the car, police spokeswoman Lyda Longa said.

The pair got back into the car and took off and both the car and dog were still missing as of late Thursday afternoon.

The Chevy's tag number is IWP-V54.
