COIMBATORE: The Southern Railways has decided to run additional trips by the
Nilgiris Mountain Rail (
NMR) on Friday and Saturday every week, as tourist specials. This
train would take tourists from Ooty to
Ketti and back.
The Southern Railway is already running tourist specials between Mettupalayam and Coonoor on weekends.
Railway officials, who were in the city to inspect the Coimbatore Junction, announced that the Ooty-Ketti-Ooty trip would start on Saturday.
“The additional special train has been scheduled till the first week of July. If the patronage is good, we will run it throughout the year,” said Salem divisional railway manager Subba Rao.
“The one-and-half hour trip will include a trip to Ketti, a half an hour break in Ketti and the return journey to Ooty. So they can experience a ride in the NMR but not spend too much of their time on it,” said Rao.
Tourists can buy tickets for the trip at the
Udhagamandalam station. The tickets priced at Rs 300 each for second class and Rs 400 each for first class will include a welcome drink, a few snacks and souvenir.
