Ujjain: Awareness programmes organised on ‘World no tobacco day’


Ujjain: Rallies and camps marked ‘World no tobacco day,’ in the city on Thursday. A public awareness rally was flagged off by energy minister Paras Jain and Mayor Meena Jonwal, starting off from Shaheed Park and ending at CMHO office. Students of BSc nursing, were also present in the rally with banners, posters and pamphlets, that advocated non consumption of tobacco.

A public awareness campaign was also launched by the social justice department and Akhil Vishwa Gayatri Pariwar. A morning march was organised by both organisations from Kothi Palace to the government swimming pool, on Kothi Palace road. A human chain was also formed to mark the day. In the evening, an awareness camp was organised at Tower Chowk. The functionaries of Gayatri Pariwar,  Pratap Shastri, Sunil Sharma and Mahakaleshwar Shrivastava administered an oath of not consuming tobacco.

Similarly, Aronya Adiwasi Seva Sansthan also launched a public awareness campaign. Secretary Vijayendra Singh Aronya said volunteers passed on the ‘no tobacco’ message to people in the Mahakaleshwar temple, Harsiddi temple, Kalbhairav temple, Narsing-ghat areas and other religious areas. Likewise, Geeta Shridhar Dharmik Sanskritik and Samajik Seva Sansthan launched an anti tobacco campaign.  Secretary Rupesh Kabra informed that members of the organisation persuaded labourers to stop consuming tobacco.
