PRCO UK has been appointed as the public relations representatives for Barcelona’s superyacht marina, OneOcean Port Vell. Built in 1991, the marina now accommodates 151 berths, creating the ultimate destination for yachts up to 190 metres. Perfectly located in Barcelona between the cruising grounds of the Western Mediterranean and the Caribbean, OneOcean Port Vell has always been a popular winter homeport. However, in recent years there has been a major shift in the traditional cruising pattern and superyacht owners are increasingly choosing the Mediterranean as their cruising ground of choice, a direct result of the shortage of space for superyachts in established destinations such as the South of France. Proof of the marina’s rising attractiveness, 2016 saw an increase of 85% in the number of superyachts over 80m and a rise of 742% of those over 100m visiting the marina.
Since 2003 OneOcean Port Vell has been a designated Blue Flag marina. Operated under the requirements of the Foundation for Environmental Education, this world-renowned eco-label ensures the marina complies to a series of environmental, educational, safety criteria that places environmental conservation and protection at the centre of OneOcean Port Vell. From superyachts to the launch of the city’s first super-prime residential building, Barcelona is a global city with an emergent luxury scene. The only European capital with 5km of beach and four marina ports, the population and tourism industry has surged in recent years, reaching 32m arrivals in 2016, with tourists attracted by Barcelona’s unique coastal location, culture, gastronomy, and Mediterranean climate.
