Top Gun 2: Tom Cruise signals filming has begun on sequel 'Maverick'
Tom Cruise has shared an image from the first day of Top Gun Two shooting. Here's the trailer for the original, 1986 film.
Tom Cruise says he feels the need. And we all know what for: The need for speed.
Early on Thursday morning (US time), the Top Gun star posted a photo of himself in a flight suit staring at a waiting fighter jet on social media, captioning it, "Day 1."
Yep, 32 years after the original Navy pilot flick premiered, Paramount confirmed to USA TODAY that production has begun on its long-awaited sequel, titled Top Gun: Maverick.
In January 2016, producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared a photo of himself and Cruise meeting to discuss potential plotlines.

At the time, the duo threw out ideas for a new story centred around a now-senior Maverick. Jungle Book writer Justin Marks was said to be incorporating the discussion into a screenplay.

Tom Cruise's Instagram post showed a picture of him on the tarmac in full flight suit.
"It's something that if we get the script right, and Tom loves it, we'll be off very shortly," Bruckheimer told USA TODAY.
Plugged In reviewer Adam Holz calls the 1986 original film and "adrenaline-pumping ode to outsized masculinity" that is "assertively pro-America" and "defiantly pro-military".
1986's Top Gun, which starred Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Meg Ryan, Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards, told the Cold War-tunged story of a hot shot pilot whose recklessness is only matched by his Top Gun skills in the cockpit.
