Bill seeks to change retirement age of TNAU V-C

With the controversy brewing over the continuance of K. Ramasamy as the Vice-Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) despite crossing the age of 70, the State government on Thursday tabled a Bill in the Assembly to fix 70 as the retirement age for the Vice-Chancellor of the university.

An association of self-financing agricultural colleges recently moved the Madras High Court challenging Mr. Ramasamy continuing in the post. The Bill to amend the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Act, 1971, said it was decided to specify the retirement age of the Vice-Chancellors as 70 in tune with the provision under the Central Universities Act, 2009, and to utilise the experience of the academicians The Bill is expected to be taken up for discussion during the ongoing Assembly session.
