Policeman seeks protection from colleague

Claims he was assaulted after refusing her marriage proposal

A 40-year-old policeman, who is part of the clerical staff in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (west division), has filed a complaint against a woman constable attached to Bommanahalli police station for allegedly harassing him and trying to compel him to marry her.

In his complaint filed on Wednesday, Gangadhar R. accused Savithramma of assaulting, abusing and threatening him outside Upparpet police station when he declined her offer of marriage.

The two met while Gangadhar was posted in the office of the DCP south east a few months ago. Savithramma also worked in that office. They got acquainted, but Gangadhar started avoiding her after a while.

Gangadhar claimed that she began to harass him regularly at work following which he took a transfer and was posted in the office of the DCP west division. “According to the complainant, when Savithramma found out about his new posting, she followed him there and began to create a scene in front of his colleagues. Often, their colleagues had to intervene and advise her to settle their differences outside the office or through legal means,” said a senior officer.

A similar scene unfolded on Wednesday when Gangadhar stepped out of the office after work to find Savithramma waiting for him. She allegedly abused and threatened him while onlookers gathered to watch.

Gangadhar was rescued by his colleagues and passers-by, following which he filed a complaint with the Upparpet police. He told the police that Savithramma not only stalked him at his workplace but also travelled to his native place in Dabaspet in Nelamangala, and confronted his family members.

Based on his statement, police registered an FIR against Savithramma under Section 506 (criminal intimidation), 353 (assault), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 504 (intentional insult).
