Electric vehicles for garbage lifting: KTR

Option under study for city buses too

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao has announced that electric vehicles will be introduced to replace the auto-trucks presently used for garbage collection in GHMC.

Next in line will be the present city buses which will be replaced by buses run with electricity, he said.

The vehicles will be introduced phase-wise across the areas covered by GHMC, the minister said, during his address after launching the advanced air-conditioned bus shelters at Kukatpalli and Khairatabad here on Thursday.

There are over 3,800 city buses which will be replaced phase-wise with electric vehicles, he said, and informed that public transportation is being given utmost priority in the city. In the next five months, 820 modernised bus shelters will come into use in public-private partnership, with GHMC bearing zero cost of construction, he informed.

The bus shelters will have wifi, mobile charging, toilets, water ATMs, CCTVs, cafeteria, reservation counter among others, he said, and added that this was the first time such shelters are being constructed in the country.
