Musk Says Tesla Model 3 Price Could One Day Drop to $28K

Tesla Model 3 production hasn’t quite reached the weekly production goal that CEO Elon Musk set in place, but the executive is already looking further into the future.

Musk replied to a Twitter user asking if the CEO agreed that the Model 3 could cost as little as $28,000 with a production volume of 10,000 units per week. He simply replied saying, “Definitely.”

The last update on Model 3 production arrived in early April after the automaker announced more than 2,000 Model 3s were rolling off of the production line per week. The figure is far shy of the 5,000 units per week Musk envisioned by the end of 2017. Now, Tesla plans to produce 5,000 Model 3 sedans per week (or 20,000 cars monthly) by the end of Q2 2018.

Last month, Tesla also announced plans to shut down the Fremont, California, assembly line for the second time between May 26 and May 31. In the announcement, Musk declared “humans are underrated” and robots have slowed production of the Model 3.
