Task forces to be formed to bring down tobacco consumption in city

The Kochi Corporation will form task forces to bring down tobacco consumption in the city.

The drive forms part of the World Anti-Tobacco Day campaign.

The civic body will coordinate with the police, Excise and Health departments for the strict enforcement of the ban on smoking in public places. A campaign will be undertaken in city schools to stop children from using tobacco, said a statement issued by Mayor Soumini Jain.

The civic body will also work with the Kudumbasree Mission to create tobacco-free homes. Cessation clinics will be opened to support those who wish to quit smoking. Campaign will cover migrant workers, and it is aimed at reducing the consumption of tobacco by 5% by 2019, the statement added.
