CHESTER, Va. (AP) — A woman shot by officers in central Virginia after police say she nearly struck them with a vehicle is facing charges including attempted capital murder.

Chesterfield County police said in a news release Friday that 28-year-old Emily C. Adkins was being treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries after the shooting late Thursday.

Police say the incident began when officers entered a motel and saw Adkins, who quickly left the area.

The news release says she attempted to flee in a vehicle, nearly hitting the officers who followed her. The officers opened fire.

Police say Adkins and a man were sharing a room at the motel, where they found a gun and apparent controlled substances.

Adkins is charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer, plus drug and firearms counts.

It wasn't immediately clear if she had an attorney.
