A person has been taken to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries after a a two-car crash on the outskirts of the Canterbury town of West Melton.
Police were called to the crash, on West Coast Rd between Iris Taylor Ave and Torlesse Rd, about 7.53pm on Friday.
A police spokeswoman said a person had been trapped in one of the vehicles, but was freed by Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews.
Three people were involved in the crash, she said.
A St John spokeswoman said one person was treated for serious injuries and two for moderate injuries. The injured trio were taken to Christchurch Hospital, she said.
The police spokeswoman said, as of 8.30pm, the road was blocked and traffic was being diverted from the scene.
