Malware attack wipes off data of private company

The head of a Bengaluru-based export and manufacturing company has approached the Criminal Investigation Department seeking help to trace the people behind a malware attack on the company’s servers.

In his complaint, Ketan S. Dhruv of Bangalore Refinery (P) Ltd., which operates out of Peenya industrial area, said his company’s two main servers and other systems were subjected to a malware attack last Monday. As a result, all important mails and data have been lost, he told the police.

The cyber crime police, which registered an FIR on Friday, is trying to trace the source of the attack. They suspect an industry rival or a disgruntled staff member.

“We are verifying background details of the staff members who have access to the systems, and have sought information about former employees who either quit or had their contract terminated,” said the police.
