In Bengaluru, Congress' Munirathna wins Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency

Munirathna’s victory was announced even as his name figures in a First Information Report (FIR) following the seizure of over 9,000 voter IDs in an apartment in Jalahalli three days before May 12 polling.
BENGALURU: Congress’ Munirathna won the Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency on Thursday. Muniratna’s nearest rival was BJP’s Tulasi Muniraju Gowda, who lost by 25,572 votes. JDS came a distant third.

Polling for this constituency was deferred due to electoral malpractices reported just days before the sate went for polls on May 12. The deferred date for polling was May 28.

Coalition partners JDS and Congress contested separately. While ongress refused to step back as Munirathna is its MLA, the JDS too did not budge as much preparation had already gone into the fight. Both the parties decided to contestseparately despite their coalition.
