Diabetes type 2 - £1 summer ‘superfood’ could slash your blood sugar
DIABETES type 2 symptoms include weight loss, feeling very tired, and using the toilet more often than normal. Adding this cheap, summer fruit to your diet could reduce your risk of high blood sugar, and lower your chance of developing of diabetes signs.
Diabetes affects about 3.7 million people in the UK, according to the NHS.
About 90 per cent of all cases are type 2 diabetes.
The condition is caused by the pancreas not producing enough of the hormone insulin, or the body not reacting to insulin.
Diabetes symptoms include blurred vision, feeling constantly thirsty, and having cuts or wounds that take longer to heal than expected.

Strawberries could help to prevent high blood sugar in diabetes patients, according to Diabetes.co.uk.
They contain a group of compounds, known as anthocyanins.
The anthocyanins are responsible for giving strawberries their bright red colour, but could also protect against diabetes.
Eating just 160g of anthocyanins twice a day could reduce insulin resistance by about 13 per cent, scientists have revealed.
You could also lower your fasting glucose levels by almost 10 per cent by eating more strawberries, they claimed.

“Several studies have linked berries to a number of health benefits for people with diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes,” said Diabetes.co.uk.
“Berries are also a good source of vitamin C and fibre, and they don't contain many carbohydrates.
“The signs are good, but the research is ongoing.
“Berries are best incorporated into breakfast or dessert.
“They're a great way of making often unhealthy or carb-heavy meals into something more nutritious.”

Other berries that are rich in anthocyanins include blueberries, cherries, raspberries and blackberries.
You could also lower your risk of diabetes by eating more beans.
They’re a great source of protein for diabetic patients, and contain lots of soluble fibre, which lowers blood glucose levels.
Managing your blood sugar levels is very important if you have diabetes, according to the NHS.
That’s because diabetics are more at risk of life-threatening complications, including heart disease, nerve damage and strokes.
