Ron Saferite was hired as a firefighter with the city of Fort Payne 28 years ago, and as he sat across from then-Fire Chief Chester Harrison and Asst. Chief Wade Hill, he made it clear what his goals were.

“Chief Harrison looked at me and he asked me where I wanted to be, and I told him that the goal was to be sitting in his chair one day,” Saferite said. “I always tried to promote myself here whenever I had the chance. I didn’t see any sense in sitting stagnant. I’ve got over 1,600 hours of training.”
