Mahindra Electric and Zoomcar have joined hands to offer self-drive electric vehicles in Mumbai with the plan of extending this association to other parts of the country after evaluating the response. Currently on offer will be 50 Mahindra Electric e2oPlus vehicles that will be available through the Zoomcar platform and the plan is to scale this up to 100 EVs by the end of next quarter.
What Mahindra Electric and Zoomcar have to say about this
Speaking on the occasion Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric said, “Mahindra Electric has been leading the EV space for close to a decade. We are proud to now extend our association with Zoomcar and introduce our EVs on the shared mobility platform in Mumbai. The state of Maharashtra is an important geography for us and we have already announced our plans to invest in a manufacturing set up here. Today also marks a special occasion for us as this initiative coincides with Maharashtra government’s announcement of their EV policy, a very positive move by the state in support of EVs. We are confident that our initiative will help people adopt EV as a technology and will contribute in Maharashtra’s journey towards a greener future.”
Greg Moran, Co-Founder and CEO, Zoomcar said “As the pioneer in shared electric mobility in India, Zoomcar is thrilled to introduce EVs in Mumbai for the first time on a shared mobility platform. The Maharashtra government’s progressive stand on EVs will surely contribute to a meaningful expansion of the electric ecosystem in the months and years ahead. Zoomcar is excited to once again work with Mahindra Electric on accelerating this crucial development.”

Mahindra e2oPlus – the details
Mahindra Electric’s bullish attitude towards addressing urban mobility needs of the future makes sense and it is honestly good to see that they are proactively designing and developing India-specific solutions, which not only includes the product, but the tie-up with Zoomcar as well to promote green mobility.
Designed and developed in-house, the e2o Plus is a practical city commuter for four adults as there is ample legroom and headroom for all four passengers on board. The e2o Plus also gets a little bit of boot space, 135 litres to be exact and before you doubt the practicality of that, remember this is a city commuter and that is just about all the space you require to ferry around office bags or to bring home the groceries.
The e2o Plus is available in four trim options and is powered by 3 Phase Induction Motors and comes fitted with 210 Ah Lithium Ion batteries. The top of the line P8 variant that delivers 30KW of power at 3500 rpm and 91 Nm of torque at 2500 rpm. It has a range of 140 km per charge and can hit a top speed of 85 km/h. The P8 version is capable of going from 0-60 km/h in just 9.5 seconds and you also get a rather interesting ‘boost’ mode to aid with overtaking manoeuvres. As for the three lower trims, the electric motor only generate 19KW of power @ 3500 rpm and make 70 Nm of torque at 1050 rpm. They also have a lower range of 110Km per charge and take about 14 seconds to do the 0-60 km/h dash.
The exact variant that Mahindra Electric will provide through Zoomcar remains to be seen, however you can be rest assured that it will be a rather efficient way to get around town as the range is more than enough for a day’s driving in the city.
