Rain in Belagavi

Belagavi was drenched in what was the possibly the first rain of this monsoon season on Friday evening.

It started raining at 4 p.m. and went on till around 5.30 p.m. Major roads including College Road and Shyama Prasad Mukherji Road were flooded. Children returning from school had a tough time crossing the road or boarding buses.

Roadside vendors in areas such as Khade Bazar and Maruti Galli had to shift their ware to nearby shelters for over an hour.

A portion of the old compound near the Deputy Commissioner’s office collapsed in the heavy rains. But none was injured.

Belagavi city receives an aggregated average of 1500 mm of rain over 80 rain days. District statistical office said rain gauge data would be available on Saturday, but they estimate around 20 mm of rainfall in the city and surrounding taluks on Friday.
