Two arrested for circulating ‘misleading videos’ of church attacks in Mangaluru on social media

Two persons have been arrested for circulating “old and misleading videos” about church attacks in Mangaluru. The video was circulated on WhatsApp after Karnataka assembly election results. But it was found to be a copy of the attacks on churches that occurred in September, 2008.

Two persons have been arrested on the charge of circulating “old and misleading videos” on social media about attack on churches in Mangaluru, police said on Friday.

The video, claiming fresh attacks on churches by right-wing activists, was circulated widely on WhatsApp just after the results of assembly elections were out on May 15.

But it was found to be a copy of the attacks on churches that occurred in September, 2008, police said.

They said a suo motu case was registered in this connection and after investigations, Sunil Veigas (34) and PP Sachit (23), residents of Chikkamagalur district, were arrested on May 30.
