Schools ready for a fun start to studies

New students to be welcomed with sweets, gifts as schools reopen today

Schools in the city are all geared up to welcome new students with Pravesanotsavam, celebrations marking school reopening, on Friday.

Many schools put up decorations on Thursday to make the tiny tots feel at home. Sweets and gifts have been stored to make the children happy.

There is new furniture in some schools, besides a new coat of paint.

The Corporation has completed maintenance work in many schools.

New buildings

At Government Higher Secondary School for Girls, Cotton Hill, work on a new building is on, while another one will be inaugurated on Friday.

The annual maintenance of buildings was on even on Thursday. Work on a foot overbridge was also being undertaken inside the campus. Textbooks had reached the school, so had the money for uniforms.

At Government Vocational and Higher Secondary School, Manacaud, all the buildings received a new coat of paint as part of maintenance undertaken by the Corporation.

Asbestos sheet on a building near the entrance was replaced with a new sheet, a ceiling put in, and fans installed.

Hi-tech classrooms

The school, which has nearly 500 new admissions, has also received equipment for making a few classrooms hi-tech. Money for uniforms, however, was yet to be received.

At Chala Tamil School, the Corporation has undertaken and completed maintenance of building and the grounds.

In the higher secondary section, all six classrooms have been made high-tech. Floor tiles for a new building remain to be laid though.

In the high school section, old broken tiles had been replaced with a roofing sheet, and buildings painted. It also received assistance from a sponsor to make three classrooms high-tech. New benches and desks had been purchased with government funds, and some old furniture repaired.

The Kamaleswaram school too saw a lot of maintenance works being undertaken ahead of the school reopening. The portion in front of the school had been tiled. Toilets for boys and girls had been cleaned, doors installed, and new water connections put in place.

Fogging was done on Thursday. The buildings had been painted, and grounds cleared. Six classrooms in the higher secondary and nine in the high school section had been made hi-tech.
