New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday said it has summoned Malaysia-based AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes on 6 June over allegations that the airline broke rules while obtaining a licence in the country.
The CBI has also summoned Rajender Dubey, the director of HNR Trading, which has been named in the first information report (FIR) filed by the agency, for alleged criminal conspiracy.
The agency has accused the airline, some of its employees and third parties of violating foreign direct investment (FDI) rules while obtaining its licence to fly, and of bribing government officials in an attempt to get regulations relaxed to allow AirAsia India fly international routes.
In the FIR filed by the agency on Monday, some “unknown public servants” of the civil aviation ministry and the then Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), along with R. Venkataramanan, director, AirAsia India, and T. Kanagalingam alias Bo Lingam, Deputy CEO, AirAsia Group have been named.
AirAsia did not immediately respond to emails seeking a comment.
