PUNE: The Hadapsar police on Sunday detained a teenager for stealing seven vehicles, including a car and five motorcycles.

A police team, led by sub inspector Mangesh Bhange, detained him after his involvement came to light in a vehicle theft case. The minor’s interrogation helped the police recover six motorcycles and a car. He also told the name of his accomplice involved in the crime. He is on the run.

Bhange said, “The boy and his accomplice would break locks of expensive vehicles by giving them a jerk, cut the ignition wires and re-connect those with the engines in a way that no key would be needed to start them.”

Investigation revealed that the minor stole a car from Hadapsar and two four-wheelers from Loni Kalbhor in 2018 and a vehicle each from Samarth in 2017 and Sangola (Solapur rural) in 2016.

“The minor is a criminal on record of the Pune rural police. The police had launched a hunt for him after investigations in a series of vehicle thefts revealed that he and his aide were active in the crime in various parts of the city. The police are searching for his accomplice,” he added.
