With a hop, a skip and a high-five, junior dance troupe DVJ leapfrogged into Sunday’s Britain’s Got Talent final. Their performance won a standing ovation from audience and judges – though that may just have been relief that the most bonkers episode of the season to date was at last drawing to a close. 

It was an evening when Simon Cowell’s talent juggernaut appeared to be undergoing an emotional meltdown in real time. “I thought it was quite weird to be honest,” said David Williams – a rare moment of understatement from the usually hyperbolic panelist.
