They seek action against land sharks for encroachment

Sadhus led by Sahdhu Matham Parirakshana Samithi staged a dharna at the Gandhi statue near GVMC office here on Wednesday demanding protection of the land belonging to the Gnanananda Ramananda Ashram at Venkojipalem from encroachments. Head of the Matham Poornananda Saraswathi alleged a leader from the ruling party and his followers had terrorised the Sadhus and were in the process of grabbing the lands. He said though there are two approach roads, the accused had grabbed nearly one acre belonging to the matam on the plea of laying a third approach road.

The Sadhus had approached the High Court and obtained a stay order but the officials were allegedly supporting the land grabbers.

Complaint lodged

He said they had lodged a complaint with the GVMC Commissioner and the Police Commissioner on May 22 demanding implementation of the HC order but there was no action on their plea.
