BHOPAL: Defending Madhya Pradesh chief minister
Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the farmer agitation in the state, Union home minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday "What Chouhan said about the
Congress is very much true. This is a Congress-sponsored agitation and no farmer union is involved in it."
"Congress has a tendency to play pranks as it did in Maharashtra and Southern states by provoking similar agitations", Singh told reporters during a press meet on completion of four years of Modi regime.
Taking a jibe at the Congress, Singh said the party "becomes active with misleading incidents during elections. The so-called farmers' agitation from June 1 is also one of the Congress' political plan."
Congress has taken up the
Mandsaur issue to provoke the farmers against the BJP-led state government, the union minister said.
Replying to a query on alleged kickbacks to the tune of Rs 17.55 crore in the procurement of spare parts for transport aircraft AN-32 by the Defence ministry, Singh said he was not aware of any such letter to his ministry from Ukraine's
National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NAB).
Listing the Central government's achievements, Singh said the direct benefit transfer scheme (
Jan Dhan Yojana) had immensely benefitted a large section of population and curbed corruption. The country opened a record Jan Dhan accounts of 31.5 crore population, he added.
