Sears announced Thursday it’s closing another 70 stores across the country, with more closures possibly coming in the near future.

In a news release, the company said it had identified 100 “nonprofitable” stores, 72 of which will be closing in the coming months. Locally, the Sears in Robinson Township will close, as will the store in South Hills Village.

It’s been nearly two years since the Sears store closed in the Beaver Valley Mall. It has since been replaced by Rural King.

As it was when the local Sears closed, company officials said Thursday that the closings are part of “ongoing efforts to streamline the company’s operations and focus on our best stores.”

"We continue to evaluate our network of stores, which are a critical component of our transformation and will make further adjustments as needed and as warranted," the company said.

The local stores will close sometime between June and September.
