CEDAR RAPIDS — A felon who unlawfully had guns, and who used those guns while distributing marijuana, was sentenced this week in federal court to over 10 years in prison.
Danquel Faulkner, 23, Cedar Rapids, pleaded guilty Feb. 22, in U.S. District Court to one count each of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
The plea agreement shows Faulkner admitted he possessed a gun on three separate occasions in June and July of 2017. He had two .40 caliber pistols, a .9 mm caliber pistol and a .22 caliber pistol. He also admitted that during two incidents he had a gun when distributing marijuana, according to plea. One of the .40 caliber handguns had been stolen from America’s 2nd Amendment Firearms, a licensed gun retailer, on June 3.
Faulkner has four previous felony convictions for possessing two stolen vehicles, escape, and possession of a controlled substance out of Cook County, Ill.
U.S. District Senior Judge Linda Reade sentenced Faulkner to 124 months of prison. He was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his prison time.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer.
