The Commissioners accepted bids for three bridge projects throughout Butler County. The three bridges being worked on are at SW 180th and SW Boyer Road in Douglass Township, SW 40th South of Towanda and at NE150th just west of Cassoday.

The Butler County Board of Commissioners purchased items and approved projects, heard bids for items to purchase and approved to seek bids for projects at Tuesday’s meeting.

The Commissioners accepted bids for three bridge projects throughout Butler County. The three bridges being worked on are at SW 180th and SW Boyer Road in Douglass Township, SW 40th South of Towanda and at NE  150th just west of Cassoday.

The 150th Street bridge west of Cassoday project bid was awarded to B&B Bridge Company of St. Paul, KS., for $85,057.50.

The SW 180th Street bridge was awarded to King Construction from Hesston for $193,961.

There was only one bid for the SW 40th Road near Towanda from King Construction of Hesston for $106,440. The commission approved that bid.

The county also approved the replacement of a cab on a loader at the Butler County Landfill. There is some damage to the cab and Foley Equipment of Wichita decertified the cab because of the damage. The commission approved for Foley to replace the cab for no more than $24,000.

Also approved for purchase was three SXCAG Patriot zero turn riding lawn mowers. The purchase includes two 61 inch deck mowers and one 52 inch deck mower. The total price for the three mowers from Hoover Motor Sales in Benton was $18,747. The purchase includes two year commercial warranty with unlimited hours.

Tow of the mowers will come from the Public Works budget and one will be paid for by Facilities Management. One mower will be given to Emergency Medical Services. One will be given to the Butler County Landfill and Facilities Management will get one to have more mowers to get mowing done quicker so they can perform other maintenance duties in a more timely manner.

The county also purchased about $50,000 worth of tires from local tire vendors. About $33,000 worth of tires were purchased from Becker Tires in El Dorado. Another approximately $13,000 in tires were purchased from Steve and Son’s Tires in El Dorado.

Projects for two hot mix asphalt surfacing projects were opened to contractors for bidding Monday.

Two stretches of road in Northwest Butler County will receive bids. The roads will be from K-196 north to 150th Road. And from NW 150th at the Harvey County line to Meadowlark Road.

The other surfacing project will run through Rose Hill on Rose Hill Road (otherwise known as Butler Road or Andover Road. The county is statuatorily responsible for maintaining County roads for class 3 or smaller cities, according to Public Works Director Daryl Lutz.

The county also opened bids for a Public Works snow plow and Salt-Sand spreaders.

The county also:

-held a work sessions for long and short term county goals and long term financial updates.

-approved a cereal malt beverage license for the Butler County Saddle Club.
