Research scholars up in arms

Delay in evaluating theses submitted in Kannur varsity

Research scholars in various disciplines in Kannur University are up in arms at the delay in evaluation of their research theses.

They say nearly 100 research theses submitted for evaluation in 2015 are gathering dust at the university.

The All Kerala Research Scholars’ Association (AKRSA) staged a protest march on the university’s administrative campus here on May 29 in protest against the delay in evaluation and conduct of viva voce.

“These scholars complete their theses after doing research work for five years. Their two years have been wasted because of the lax attitude of the university,” said AKSRA Kannur University unit secretary Sharath Ravi. He said the university remained apathetic though the issue was brought to the authorities’ notice several times. Hence the protest was staged.

Though the university had formed the Research Directorate, it was moving at a snail’s pace.

Due to the delay in getting the PhD, many research scholars were not in a position to apply for jobs, he said. Research scholars led by AKRSA unit president Prashanth P. and Mr. Ravi staged the march.
