CEDAR RAPIDS — A new, small green space, also called a “pocket park,” in the city’s MedQuarter will be open for the public by the summer.
The MedQuarter Regional Medical District announced Thursday it will build the pocket park at the northeast corner of Eighth Street SE and Third Avenue SE. The park will have an open grass area and be surrounded by trees.
It will be open to the public and used by members of the MedQuarter for programming, according to a news release.
The MedQuarter acquired the property for $115,000 in November 2017. The lot is less than one-10th of an acre and sits directly next to Vietnamese restaurant Phong Lan.
The MedQuarter also has a pocket park on Fourth Avenue SE.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to incorporate additional beautification efforts into the MedQuarter,” MedQuarter Executive Director Phil Wasta said in the release.
