Saturday in Schenectady: Kids Arts Festival
SCHENECTADY — The Kids Arts Festival on Saturday will have the same lively activities it's had for the previous 23 versions.
It will also have new approaches — including nursery rhymes and children's poems in several languages.
The 24th festival runs from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday on Jay Street outside Schenectady's City Hall. The rain location will be inside Proctors theater.
Betsy Sandberg said organizers researched the nursery rhymes and poems from other countries and they will be printed very large on boards for kids to see in their own or other languages. Poems will be in Spanish, Japanese, Portugese, Italian, Mandarin, French, Darsi, Bulgarian, and Hindi.
On Saturday the lawn stage will feature Geek Musica. the Puppet People, Mopco Improv Theatre, Dance Me Elite Performers and Mr. Twisty. The State Street stage will feature Oneida Middle School Jazz Band, the School of Performing Arts at Proctors, a telant show
poetry slam and Ramblin' Jug Stompers.
Several activities and performances will also be on the street.
Sandberg said thanks to the Schenectady County legislature, Kids Arts Fest will not just be a one-day thing. The $1,000 funding increase means arts activities will be brought to many Schenectady County special events.
