Take two: McGowan announces new Darling Range byelection candidate

WA Labor has announced Tania Lawrence as its second candidate in as many weeks to stand in the Darling Range byelection.

Tania Lawrence lives in the Darling Range electorate, on a property in Mundaring.

She is currently a senior manager at Woodside and has also served in the public sector, including in emergency response management and counter-terrorism.

“Tania’s record speaks for itself, she will be a strong voice in my government," Premier Mark McGowan said.

“As a local resident, with a wealth of experience in the public and private sectors, Tania will be an effective local member of parliament for this community."

On Friday, Labor's former candidate, Colleen Yates, pulled out of the race after WAtoday revealed she listed degrees she had not earnt in an online resume.

This came after former Labor MP Barry Urban quit the seat earlier this month when a damning report found he lied to parliament about his educational credentials and service history.

“I live in Mundaring and love the lifestyle and opportunities our region has to offer," Ms Lawrence said.

“My community deserves to have a strong local voice in the McGowan Labor Government, and as a Mundaring local, I am putting myself forward to be that voice."

Nominations for the June 23 byelection close at midday, Friday.
