‘CKD did not crop up overnight’

The State government is keen on addressing the problems being faced by the kidney patients in the Uddanam region in Srikakulam district and finding a permanent solution, Home Minister N. Chinarajappa has said.

“The residents of the region have been grappling with the issue for over 100 years. It is the TDP government that has started working on it with a view to putting an end to the suffering of the people,” he said, after laying stone for a road project that would connect Samalkot with P. Vemavaram.

The project coming up with an outlay of ₹1.1 core is being funded by NABARD.

“Some people are speaking as if the problem has cropped up overnight and there is no action from the government. This is completely wrong. A lab has been set up in the area and dialysis service is being offered to patients,” he said.

There was no dearth of funds for the Medical and Health Department. This apart, the Ministry was being taken care of by the Chief Minister himself.

Referring to road connectivity in the rural pockets, the Home Minister said efforts were on to lay link roads to all the villages.

Residents of P. Vemavaram were seeking the road for the last three decades.
