Plus One pass percentage this year is higher than Plus Two, says Minister

60 of 305 schools achieved 100% pass in Puducherry and Karaikal

Girl students outperformed boys in the State Plus One Board examinations, the results of which were announced here on Wednesday. Girls recorded a 93.22 % pass and boys, 85.12% . Of the 15,246 candidates who took the exam, 7,955 were girls and 7,291 were boys. As many as 7,416 girls and 6,206 boys passed the examination.

Releasing the results, Minister for Education R. Kamalakannan said the total pass percentage was 89.35, which is 2.3 percentage points higher than this year’s Plus Two results. While the pass percentage in Puducherry was 90.45, it was 83.38 in the Karaikal region. As many as 60 schools out of 305 achieved centum pass result in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

The Ananda Rangapillai Government Special School for Differently abled Children in Pillaichavady, Puducherry, was the lone government school to have achieved 100 % pass in Plus One exam.

Mr. Kamalakannan said academic audit would be introduced in Puducherry to keep track of all the aspects of performance of schools. This would also include concentration and quality of the teachers and there should be close coordination between teachers, parents and heads of institutions so that the performance of students improved periodically.

Mentoring system is being introduced to ensure that each teacher is taking care of at least 10 students on an average in their studies to improve their performance.

The department has also proposed to fill as many as 520 posts of teachers by selecting candidates on merit. With the Finance Department not giving the nod for the proposal of the government to appoint permanent teachers, the department would soon recruit teachers on contract basis to handle the classes.
