Rachel Riley Twitter: Countdown star HITS OUT at B&Q amid ‘dangerous’ incident with nephew
RACHEL RILEY called out hardware store B&Q as the Countdown presenter recalled a terrifying incident involving her nephew on Tuesday night, in a post shared with her 566,000 Twitter followers.
Rachel Riley spoke out about the “dangerous” incident, which is thought to have seen a glass patio table shatter suddenly, on Twitter on Tuesday.
It came after a Facebook user shared his fears about what could have happened if a family had been sitting at the table at the time.
Sharing an article which detailed the moment that the man's outdoor table smashed into shards of glass, the 32-year-old admitted her baby nephew was involved in a similar occurrence.
“The same thing happened around my baby nephew last year," the Countdown favourite revealed. "I can’t believe B&Q are still selling this. So dangerous."
A B&Q spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “If damaged, toughened glass purposefully shatters into small granular pieces, much like glass used in car windscreens.
"This is a safety feature to reduce risk of injury, as it doesn’t form large jagged shards like normal glass.
It’s a miracle if no one’s been hurt yet
"Toughened glass is used widely throughout the furniture industry, however incidents of this nature are still very rare.
"We have been in touch with Mr Smith, who has accepted a gift card for a replacement table.”
Broadcaster Sarah O’Connell responded to the tweet, telling the star: “I had this happen several years ago. A strong wind suddenly lifted the umbrella slightly and it smashed to pieces. I replaced it with a wooden one!”
Rachel replied: “So dangerous. It’s a miracle if no one’s been hurt yet.”
Other Twitter users rushed to comment on the post, with one writing: “Happened to us as well, really frightening & dangerous.
“They should come with some sort of warning. Wood, metal or rattan for me now.”
Another empathetic fan shared his own experience, penning: “Same thing happened to my B&Q table last year… shocking it’s still being sold!”

A third exclaimed: “Where are the safety standards?!? This shouldn't have made it to market in the first place…”
However, one social media user disputed the reports, claiming: “Nothing dangerous about it in the slightest, the glass looks like safety glass and its done its job.”
It came after the presenter was spotted supporting Manchester United at the football fame last week.
And, one Twitter user was left very surprised after a pal had asked to have a photo with the TV star as she made her exit.
They asked: “Could you please settle an argument Rachel, my friend swears it was you he had a selfie with on Wembley Way after the match on Saturday.

“Was it you walking down and I spoke to you apologising for him being a pest and saying you looked like RR?”
Clearly amused by the question, Rachel confirmed: “Yep. You said I looked like me. I said I get that a lot,” before adding a number of crying laughing emojis.
Another Twitter user, who is thought to be the other person in question, went on to explain how disappointed his friend was for missing out on the photo opportunity.
“Thank you Rachel. He’s gutted now he didn’t get a pic with you,”(sic) they wrote.
Countdown airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 2.10pm.
