Rating to be given based on waste management

Regional-level workshop held

Sixth regional-level capacity building workshop on star rating of garbage free cities held here on Wednesday covered various topics that centred on solid waste management.

Speakers at the workshop, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), deliberated on the key components of the year-long assessment of the star rating methodology that includes door-to-door garbage collection, material recovery facility of waste storage bins, scientific method of waste processing and land-filling, effective enforcement of ban on plastics and concrete steps taken to accentuate city’s beauty.

Giving insights into the process of verification in the garbage-free rating, team member of the National Project Management Unit –Swachh Bharat Mission (urban) Sanghamitra Bhattacharya said based on the compliance with the rating protocol, cities will be rated one to seven stars.

Highest rating

With seven-star considered the highest rating, cities will be rated based on the best waste management practices and cleanliness indicators. CMO of GVMC A. Hemanth said it is a constant endeavour to sensitise people and make them take an active role in achieving garbage-free city.
